I had a chance to visit Fusion-IO - vendor of high quality medium cost solid state hard drives.  What sets them apart from their competitors?  Shear speed!  I had the cahnce to talk to one of their “sales engineers” and got a quick glimpse of their impressive drive technology.

lwlogo.gifOne year ago, I attended LinuxWorld; for the first time.  I had high expectations for the conference and the exhibitors.  It wasn’t a bad show.  There was some “hype” and excitement about Linux.  However, the year that has not been a year of gib advances in the Linux footprint within datacenters or desktops.  Now - before the Linux geeks get their undies in a bind - think about it….

I recently was faced with getting some tech support for my DSL I recently purchased from AT&T.  I figure that I have spent about 10 hours of my personal time trying to hook-up the AT&T DSL Modem.  I am admittedly patient, and don’t see where yelling at any person on the phone who is paid to help you gets anything done.  However, in the case of Internet connectivity, the only thing I ask is get me past the “Level One” support!  They are great for the clueless - as in leading the clueless.  During my recent required support by AT&T, I had to take note of the things I was told to do!

IBM recently announced the next generation of mainframe - z10 - which sports some great new features, more MIPS, and a quad-core processor that now rivals your favorite laptop! But seriously, maybe now we have some hope for real consolidation efforts in the data center. Further, maybe consolidation sprawl can be managed as well!
